This shortlisted entry for the Northwich Cultural Centre Competition stitches a new cultural centre into the existing and future fabric, balancing the substantial historical narrative and the technical constraints of the landscape. |

The theatre is lifted up from the ground opening up the site to create a new triumphant civic space connected to the river, the landscape and the culture of Vale Royal. Conceptually the whole building is a giant slice through the geology of the earth revealing a crystalline form with a hewn timber soffit referencing the mines and also the great timber craftsmanship of the region. |
